Welcome SWANS Members

Our speaker this month is Corey Levine, a human rights and peacebuilding policy expert, researcher and writer. Her topic will be Afghan Women and Girls from 9/11 to the Present Day. Corey has spent more than 25 years in conflict areas, including Afghanistan, Bosnia, East Timor, Iraq, Kosovo, Mali, Palestine, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka and Ukraine. A posting to Afghanistan in March 2002 to determine Canada’s peacebuilding support, after the fall of the Taliban, led to a 22-year engagement (and counting!) with the country. After her last posting in November 2020, when she worked with women parliamentarians, she returned to Canada, 6 weeks before the Taliban took over in 2021. Since then, she has dedicated herself to assisting at-risk women and their families escape Afghanistan and find safety in other countries, including Canada. Corey returned to Afghanistan in 2022 to document the changes for Afghan women and girls since the Taliban came to power and then spent a month there November/December 2023.

There will be sign up sheets available for our many activity groups. Unable to attend the luncheons? You can notify the Contact person of your favorite group anytime throughout the year. Their information is on the web-site under Interest Groups. All groups will start fresh, so you will need to sign up even if you have been in the group forever.

How to Book?

Fill in the required * boxes with names and dietary needs if applicable. “CHECKOUT NOW” or “SAVE AND VIEW CART ” if you want to make any changes.
On the Checkout page click “PLACE ORDER”
You will receive an email from SWANS saying SUCCESSFULLY REGISTERED
The cost is $40, paid by e transfer through your bank or at the door with cash or a cheque already made out to SWANS.
If you book and do not cancel 48 hours prior to the lunch, you are responsible for the payment and will not receive a refund.

NOTE:  There is construction at Exit 10 off of Highway 1.  It’s best to continue onto Exit 14, stay in the left lane signposted for Sooke.
