Speaker: Hugh Stephens
Hugh Stephens will be speaking about why copyright is important to all of us and is critical to a well functioning democratic society. He will cover the role of AI in copyright, the news media and educational copying.
Hugh and his wife Catherine moved to Victoria in 2010 from Hong Kong where they spent almost 10 years. Hugh was “Assistant Deputy Minister for Policy and Communications in the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade”. Hugh writes a weekly blog on copyright and cultural industries and is the author of the book, In Defence of Copyright, published by Cormorant Books in 2023. The book is a non-technical overview of copyright and its importance to the information economy, written for the general reader.

The cost is $45, paid by e transfer through your bank or at the door with cash or a cheque already made out to SWANS.
If you book and do not cancel 72 hours prior to the lunch, you are responsible for the payment and will not receive a refund.
